How do I use your templates?
It's easy! Use the "Place" command in Photoshop® to insert your pictures into the "pre-made windows" in the templates. Check out the quick steps HERE.
We also have a brand new (amazing!) plug-in called IMAGE LOADER that will resize and add your photos for you. It's available for CS4 and up, only takes a minute to install and will save you tons of time.
What type of software do I need?
• Photoshop CS3 or above is recommended.
• Elements 7 or above. (Elements 11 or above for any actions)
Can I use Elements?
Our templates work great in Photoshop Elements 7 or above and any available actions work best with Elements 11 or above.
Elements does a few things differently than the full version of Photoshop, and you can learn about it on our ELEMENTS USERS page – there you will find some AWESOME effects that will speed up your work flow in Elements when using templates.
Are the fonts included?
When you download your templates, there will be a folder that includes any font files/font links for the sample fonts that we used. We only use free fonts or fonts that come standard on all computers in our designs.
Do you print everything too?
No, we are not a printing company and don't handle any printing. We sell the pre-designed layouts (layered Photoshop® templates). You add your images to the templates (pre-designed pages) and order your printed piece from the printer of your choice.
Our books/albums come in a "12x12 Standard" size for printers such as Mpix, Millers, KISS, Pro DPI, etc. – or we have a variety of sizes made to the exact specifications for White House Custom Color.
Most cards (holiday, birth announcement, business cards, etc.) are a standard size that can printed by most printing companies.
Specialty products such as "boutique" shaped cards, accordion mini-books, CD Cases, Image Boxes, etc. are sized specifically for printing at White House Custom Color.
Check the description of any product
for printer/sizing information.
Can I change the colors in the templates?
Of course! :) It's super easy to change the colors in our templates, see how it's done HERE.
Can I resize the 12x12 albums to smaller square sizes?
Sure! Our album template page spreads are all separate .psd files that can easily be resized. Go *HERE to find quick actions for resizing your page spreads to other sizes.
*Free Resizing Actions Available for Many of the More Popular Printing Companies.
What if I want to make an album with more pages or less pages than what is included in the template set?
Since all the page spreads are separate .psd files, you are free to reuse your favorite spreads to make a longer book - or use only your favorite spreads to make a shorter book.
PLEASE NOTE: Certain album printers and album products have covers that vary in size depending on the number of page spreads your album contains. (such as the White House "Albums") We provide a cover that is sized based on the number of spreads contained in the template set. If you wish to order more or less pages, you can email us at email@example.com and we'll be glad to help with making the sizing changes to your cover template.
***White House's "Lay-Flat Hinged Page Book" covers DO NOT change in size depending on the number of page you order. •••
What is the difference between White House Custom Color's (WHCC) "Lay-Flat Book" and "Press Album"?
White House's "album" is a nicer quality book that has no loss in the gutter, can be printed on many different paper options such as linen or watercolor, you have the option to "pad" the cover, and the album begins and ends with a full spread instead of half pages. (the pages themselves are also a tiny bit larger)
White House's "book" is a more affordable (yet still great) option. Here are links to the "album" and "book" pages on White House's site so that you can see the difference for yourself.
Both our "book" and "album" WHCC sized templates include an action to make a 10x10 version from the templates, as well as a full cover template for both the 12x12 and 10x10 size.
What kind of paper should I choose for the "Reception Books" that get signed by the guests?
If you're ordering a White House Custom Color "Lay-Flat, Hinged Page Book", then it's important to get the "hinged" paper – and do not get the optional UV coating. (the hinged paper is a thicker, more matte finish than their "standard" paper)
If you're ordering a White House Custom Color "Press Album", then their art watercolor, art linen, and art recycled options are all wonderful for writing.
If you're using the "Standard" size templates, check with your printer's customer service for advice on paper choice.
Now let's talk about pens - a good old fashioned ball point pen will rarely "smear" on a book. Semi-fine tip Sharpie's are also great. ( I think people know not to drag their hand across a freshly inked sharpie word) We really love Slick Writers. Stay away from the "liquid ink" pens like a UniBall and you should be good.
How do I order these page "spreads" in ROES when it looks like it only accepts single sides?
You're going to love how easy this is!
You will basically:
1. Drag your page spread into the preview window in ROES.
2. Drag the spread all the way to the right as far as it will go and click "Add to Order" - this will order the left side.
3. Next, drag the spread all the way to the left as far as it will go and click "Add to Order" - this will order the right side.
Adding your pages in this manner will assure that any pictures or patterns that spread across the two pages will definitely line up.
The actions that came with my blog frames aren't working!
It's likely that you just need to open the .psd file and then play the action too. (example: Open "Blog2.psd" and play the corresponding action called "Blog2") The actual photoshop template needs to be open before you play the action.
If you still have trouble, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org letting us know what version of Photoshop you are using, and what is happening when you play the action. It's also usually helpful to email a "screen shot" (including the layers palette) so that we can better troubleshoot your issue. Click HERE to learn how to take a screen shot.
Can I print this somewhere other than WHCC?
If you've purchased a "WHCC" size book or album template set – then you really should stick with printing at White House Custom Color. This is because WHCC has unusual page sizing that likely won't work for a different printer. The page spread sizes are listed on the page where you purchased your template set, so feel free to cross check the size with the printer you wish to you - you never know! Also keep in mind we also sell a "12x12 Standard" size of all our album designs that is suitable for most printers. We also have free page resizing actions for our "Standard" templates that work with several of the more popular book/album printers on our "Free Book Resizing Actions" page.
Most of our card products are a standard size that can be printed most anywhere - check the product description for product specific printing information.
For products such as the image boxes, cd cases, accordion mini books or "boutique" shaped cards that we offer which are listed as being specifically for White House – they probably wouldn't work at other printers because unfortunately all printers have very different sizing requirements for those types of products.
